Public Records Law - State Statute 19.31:
Providing person with information on the affair of government is "an essential function of a representative government and an integral part of the routine duties of officers and employees whose responsibility it is to provide such information. To that end, ss.19.32 to 19.37 shall be construed in every instance with a presumption of complete public access, consistent with the conduct of governmental business. The denial of public access generally is contrary to the public interest, and only in an exceptional case may access be denied."
Kohler Police Department Policy:
It is the intent of the Kohler Police Department to comply with all state statutes concerning the availability of records to the public.
If you wish to receive a copy of a police report or accident report, please contact the Kohler Police Department during the lobby hours of 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m, Monday thru Friday.
Assuming the report is not part of an ongoing investigation, we will be happy to supply you with a copy of the report for a fee of .25 cents per page.
If you are in a hurry, it is to your benefit to call ahead with your request and we will have the information waiting for you when you come in to pick it up.
