GOALS AND OBJECTIONS OF COUNTERACT:
|
|
To help upper elementary students learn skills to resist pressure to use alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs, and to make positive choices. CounterAct involves local police departments, elementary schools, and parents in a cooperative effort.
|
As a result of participation in this program, students will:
|
- Demonstrate knowledge of negative consequences of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.
- Increase their knowledge of influences to use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
- Demonstrate CounterActing skills as a way to say "no" to negative influences.
- View police officers as approachable and helpful.
- Be motivated to choose healthy and safe activities.

- Identify the importance of parental influence.
- Reinforce the belief that police are a source of help.
- Talk with their children about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
- Know the content and process of CounterAct.
